STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Who was the first person to tell you getting into music or playing guitar was a crazy idea? We all have someone who sticks out that says "You'll never do it," mine were all high school teachers... TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: Y'know, nobody has ever said that to me in my entire life, honest. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Who first taught you how to play, who taught you the most and who made you think you could do all you have with that talent? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: I taught myself to play by ear just by listening to my favorite albums. In the beginning, I did take a few guitar lessons from a teacher, who at the end of each lesson would show me how to play a few songs by my favorite bands at the time. One time the teacher showed me a song I had already figured out on my own and what he showed me was wrong! Consequently, I ended my guitar lessons there. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: What directed your attention to the music industry itself as a possible profession once you learned to play and how did you originally see your part in it? Did you ever see it in your wildest dreams as a place where others would eventually want to be like you? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: No, when you're focused on what you want to do, whether it be play guitar or be in a band and that is your passion, all of the ancillary things fall into place without thinking about it. I don't care about the music business perse. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Met anyone along the way who discouraged you once the ball got rolling? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: No, but it wouldn't matter anyway. Who cares about anyone else's (negative) opinions? STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Tell us something nobody knows but only because they havent asked you yet. Something you've always wondered why interviewers never ask or maybe since you're now with KISS and they have such a following, something about them, a trivia point. TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: The fact that there are so many amazing women where ever we go and it truly makes my head spin! STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: What bands did you think may have had a shot from the Strip back in the day? I know you worked with the THINGS. Footnote, I was the trainer for their guitarist back in 91... TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: How about Black 'N Blue? STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: You've been around the World. What's the grossest thing you ever ate? Did you eat it because some one said "Hey, taste this!" and did you get even afterwards? Sushi doesn't count. I like sushi. TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: One time we were in this dingy town somewhere in South America and we asked the server, "What's this we're eating?" The guy doesn't speak much English says, "Cluck, cluck" and we say OK, chicken, right.. So then we ask, "What's this?" and the server says "Moo", and we say good, beef, yeah, got it.. and so somebody else at the table says, "Waiter, what's this we're eating here?" And the guy goes, "Ruff ruff..! STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: What's the hardest and the easiest parts of being a touring guitarist? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: It's the best job in the world.. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Do you know any musicians really concerned with being healthy that carry their habits on the road? I have heard about musicians who hire trainers, go on diets, etc, but they don't look so good. Is it backstage catering? Can't music and health or touring go together? How do you do it? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: It certainly helps to physically train and condition all the time, at least several times a week, which I do. It's the only smart and sensible way to approach it. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: What is your most frequently asked question and what is it about that question that makes you crazy, but you somehow manage to remain composed? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: "How long does it take to do your makeup?" But it doesn't really make me crazy, it's a fair question. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Is there a job or a gig that you were offered but passed up on it that we would find interesting because it has nothing to do with music? Like bagging groceries or something? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: I used to deliver office furniture, age 19 - 22. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Some people think you appeared overnight. Just out of nowhere, here is a guitar wizard. How does it make you feel to see people less talented than you or at least not as well rounded as you are actually handed something overnight? Does it give the wrong impression to those on the outside looking in? Does it matter after being in your shoes? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: That doesn't matter to me. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Your crowning achievement in life will hopefully be what? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: President of the United States, no just kidding. Just being happy with good friends, that's all. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Tell me a joke: TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: See worst food experience above.... STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: What is your favorite music album of the year so far and what do you listen to not released lately that you still listen to the most? I like Air Supply. Alright, I said it. Sue me! TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: Just the Captain and Tennille, they're very good. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: What is your favorite album that is commonly regarded to as BAD music that no one else you know likes, but you love it anyhow? You know, something a bit embarrassing like Britney Spears or Europe but you just don't care! TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: I did always have an attraction to "The Final Countdown." STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Who outside of another guitarist, KISS and yourself is the most intriguing person in your business? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: Any Beatle (or) Monkee. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Tell me the last good movie you can remember that you saw in theaters, and the last video you rented: TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: "Jaws," I rented the DVD last week. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: Ever had an idea for a great movie about musicians, a band, the industry, anything else? Are you into Sci-Fi, drama.... What shows do you watch? TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: Well, Spinal Tap actually captures what being in a band is really like. STAR INTERVIEWS ONLINE ASKED: The worst pickup line you ever used was... And did that pickup line work? Bruce Kulick uses business cards. He told me so. TOMMY THAYER REPLIED: When I'm at a party in a hotel room; "Could you please step inside the bathroom here with me for a second, I need to talk to you." It works well...
